What is Interlock Knit Fabric?

Interlock knit fabric is a double-knit fabric made using two sets of needles, resulting in a fabric that is thicker, more durable, and has less stretch compared to single-knit fabrics. It is one of the most stable and versatile knits, offering a smooth texture on both sides.

Made using a circular knitting machine that uses two needle beds, it creates a fabric with a unique structure where the loops interlock, hence the name.

Knitting Process of Interlock Fabric

Circular Knitting Machine Setup: Interlock fabric is made on a circular knitting machine using two sets of needles (needle beds). These work together to form a double-layered fabric, where loops from each needle bed interlock.

Interlocking Stitch Formation: The front needle bed creates loops that face outward, while the back needle bed creates loops that interlock with the front loops, giving the fabric its smooth, uniform finish on both sides. This dense, durable structure is built row by row.

Finishing: After the knitting process, the fabric may go through dyeing, shrinking, and other finishing processes to enhance its look, feel, and performance.
